Probably an automatic NP for a 240/260, but a 280 makes me scratch my head a little bit. Guy seems to indicate that all the parts are there, it's just apart for paint, and still runs fine.

NP for $2,000.
Just a body in that good of shape in the northeast would probably sell for $3500, and that's not including the rest of the car.

NP if all of the parts are indeed there. Also, look for an uncracked dash. It doesn't look like the original dash, but if it is, it looks uncracked. That alone is worth $1000 without the rest of the car.
70% of the work you'd have to do to improve it (strip, bumper removal, etc.) is all done, and it's still reliable with the best motor. Sell the 4 speed, swap in a 5 speed, paint it, repair the body damage, go get your own seats and interior trim, give it some new brakes and suspension, refresh the engine, paint it, and you'd have one badass car.
As for the price difference for a 240Z and a 280Z...The 280Z is actually a much better choice for a modified build. The 240z is only better for the prestige and collector status, but isn't really a 'better' car.

And those usually have rust all over them.

Obviously your not much of a Datsun guy? 2k for that is a very NP. That could easily get triple that in a lot of markets, especially if what he says is true. If it is just apart for paint, that is a no brainer of a buy. Look up how much those wheels are worth and you will see what I mean. The wheels and tires alone will sell for 700-1k $.

Frankly, I'm surprised my father-in-law hasn't bought this already.

I try and temper my expectations when posting a NPOCP. Oppo has a bad habit of acting like every deal ever posted is a ripoff. I think it's quite the nice price.

You're not kidding. There's a guy around here that wants $11k for a rusty but running 260 with an awful interior. Insane, and won't ever get it, but still, to even ask that...

Agreed ha. I already have a 75 280z with an LS1 swap and I am still thinking about flying out there to snatch it up so I can have a built L28 version as well. This is honestly one of the better deals I have ever seen on here, although I am admittedly a Datsun guy.
